Urban Modern In-Law Basement

This Urban Modern basement was designed and built as an in-law suite tailored specifically for the client’s elderly mother. Accessibility was a top priority, with extra-wide doors and a curbless shower to accommodate a walker, while additional insulation ensured a warm and comfortable living environment. For sound control, we installed safe & sound insulation throughout the ceiling, creating a quieter and more private space.

The suite includes a spacious bedroom with an ensuite 3-piece washroom, an additional powder room, and generous storage. The open-concept kitchen is a highlight, featuring a large island with built-in power, a microwave, and a wine chiller. Modern details such as a gunmetal apron sink, black pull-down faucet, and vinyl laminate flooring enhance the urban design.

The living area is centered around an electric fireplace, with abundant pot lights on dimmer switches to set the mood. The colour scheme — a refined palette of grey and white with black accents — creates a sleek, modern aesthetic while maintaining a cozy, welcoming feel.
